Without addressing the lack of updates on anything at all for over a year, let’s dive right into a summary of all updates released in the past month for our Vanilla Minecraft server, which for the time being is dubbed Chocolate Twist.
⢠The server now supports both online and offline accounts. Legitimate users (so-called “premium accounts”) will automatically login and have their skin applied. Offline (“cracked”) users must register and login after joining the server. Moreover they are not allowed to use the same name of any existing premium accounts. Existing offline users should get in touch to have their player data transferred to a new username of their choice and receive a custom nickname in-game. I understand purchasing the game is not viable to many, family and friends included, so I believe this to be a good compromise. The impact this has on Mojang is negligible.
⢠Taller Nether! All the way to the 256 blocks limit.
⢠Sleeping speeds up the night instead of skipping it, according to the percentage of players lying down. This means not everyone needs to be in bed, and it looks very smooth too.
⢠Sitting on slabs and stairs with signs on the side(s) is possible again.
⢠Trees will “fall” after the first log is chopped. This prevents tiny floating bushes in the sky when a tree is too tall and you can’t bother placing down blocks to reach the top. It is also quite a spectacle to watch when cutting down very large trees.
⢠Faster leaf decay.
⢠Versions as far back as 1.12.2 will be compatible and allowed to connect until our updated client is out. Keep in mind the server’s resource pack is only compatible with versions newer than 1.13, which means you must disable it if you are on 1.12.2.
⢠Experience points (not levels!) may now be transferred between players and used as currency. The following commands have been introduced:
/exp – Outputs your experience points in chat. /exp give <player> <amount> – Transfers the given amount of XP to a player. |
⢠You will now reel in real fish out of the water! Watch that poor thing flop and asphyxiate, or mercifully throw it back to the water – or into a bucket!
⢠Dropped seeds and saplings will plant themselves after a while, where possible, if they are left on the ground.
⢠You will see alerts when your equipped tool’s durability has dropped below 5%.
⢠Your phantoms will grow larger and tougher the longer you go without sleeping.
⢠The world hub is working again! Use the balloon at the spawn point to fly there. A brand new 1.16 world is now available.
⢠Our clients are now available for testing through a beta of our new launcher: http://atmostage.com/mc/atmo-setup.exe
Also introducing Chocolate Lite, an alternative to Chocolate Twist which runs on Fabric and should perform a lot better, only sacrificing a few fancy features.
There hasn’t been much time for testing, but I wanted to get the launcher out this week. So there we go, it’s a “beta”. Expect a little funk, and please report any issues you run into.
⢠Everything that is done in the game is now logged, just in case. Every breath you take…
⢠Coming back from death is not easy, nor is it cheap. Respawning will now cost you a fixed amount of experience points, and leave you indisposed for a short while. You might also run into your own zombified self if you return to where you kicked your bucket…
⢠Many performance improvements were accomplished so that the server could support multiple worlds. Turns out it’s more stable now than ever before!
⢠Wither skeletons with bows will now spawn in fortresses instead of common skeletons. They shoot flaming arrows, which curiously is a vanilla feature. There is also a 1% chance any given wither skeleton will spawn riding a skeleton horse.
⢠Minecart physics have been changed to enable… jumping off ramps. It’s the best time to be a rollercoaster tycoon.
⢠Craftable bells. Because we know villages won’t have any for long otherwise.
⢠Stone tools can now be crafted using any combination of any type of stone.
⢠There is now a 10% chance a chicken will shed a feather instead of laying an egg.
All of these updates have been previously announced every Friday on our Discord server.
